I know that child sex trafficking is a very hot story in right wing circles these days, but I urge all posters to be careful with this movie.
The Sound of Freedom is biopic of a guy named Tim Ballard. Ballard, who was involved in the production of the film, makes spectacles of "stopping" human trafficking and then uses that to solicit donations to his organization called O.U.R. Unlike legit charities, OUR releases no information on how it spends money. Charity Watch and Charity Navigator refuse to rate OUR because of this.
It is, however, known from tax disclosures that OUR received over $47 million in donations in 2020, but could only account for $50,000 in spending. During this time Ballard inexplicably became very wealthy.
The events depicted in the film are highly embellished. Ballard's raid was actually conducted by Colombian police, and was far smaller than Ballard claims. True to form, Ballard is making a lot of money of this film and it won't be long until his hand is out asking for more donations.
Child sex trafficking is a real problem that deserves attention, but I urge anyone who reads this not to let their emotion get the better of them and give money to Ballard, his organization, or his movie.
